Education in Rural African Schools

  • Many students have to walk more than 12 km (To and From) school every day (cross dense forest and rivers). More than 2000 km a year!  Most learners are vulnerable whilst others are orphans. There are child-headed families and more than 50% live in households where nobody is employed.
  • Learners lack confidence, looking down on themselves, shy to take initiative and dependent on their teachers all the time. They lack role models.
  • Most learners comes from home where their parents have not had much education. The parents are therefore not able to provide much support for their learning or learners often have less support at home.
  • Students come to school being fearful of being bullied.
